SHUIYUNJIAN draws its inspiration from the Yuen Yan hole, a natural pit where Zhou Dun-yen conducted academic research. The pit's enchanting cloud formations and the sense of elevated social status they evoke are reflected in the design of the tea house. Another source of inspiration is the former residence of Zing Goo-fan, a Chinese architecture that JIANG GUO XING admires for its slender Ming-style and minimalistic Qing-style details.

The tea house stands out for its unique properties. Covering an area of 460 square meters, it is constructed using a variety of materials including black granite, volcanic rock, algae clay, cobble, and beige-cream travertine.
